Removing the Dam: Today’s Scorpio Full Moon

A brief overview of this lunation and its Big Picture context, with reflection prompts to align yourself with the Cosmos between the Scorpio, Taurus and Aries prevailing energies.

The Full Moon is exact today May 1st, 2026 at 11 degrees, 20 minutes of Scorpio, at 17:21 UT.

With the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Scorpio, we’re dealing with fundamental, instinctual archetypes. The forces of Life and Death; of Growth and Decay; the cycles of energy and matter, dancing the emergence of physical, emotional and ecological health.

The image that comes to mind is from Hayao Miyazaki’s film, Princess Mononoke — the Forest God both bringing forth life and absorbing it back into himself.

As always, lunations don’t occur in a vacuum, but function as activations or translators of the larger ongoing planetary cycles, bringing them present into our daily world, furthering the plot, so to speak. This cosmic moment highlights ways of being and connecting, routines, structures and ways of coping, that have been useful so far, but have become limiting.

Within the last 2.5 months, several planetary cycles that were in the process of ending —since 2023 — finally closed and a new chapter just opened for us collectively. Many have been feeling the long ending process as disorientation, shifting sands, or an ongoing stop-and-start.

The projected future the collective imagined 20 or even 10 years ago is not what is emerging; the very sensitive, the neurodivergent pattern-recognizers, the canaries in the coalmine, the psychic dreamers and the soul-connected intuitives knew that divorcement from Earth and Spirit would never yield a future, but it wasn’t clear as day to the majority.

Life is now demanding for the New that’s been brewing underneath all that fog to come forth.

During the New Moon, on April 17th, our skies peaked with fire-element energy (thanks to six-eight planets in Aries, depending on how you’re counting).

While some of that fire has dissipated a bit, we’ve been navigating a volatile phase, with the potential to help us break through long-standing stuck places, but also easy to mishandle.

Think of the power that weeds use to break through heavy concrete, the raw instinct of the moment of birth, of the fuel and resources needed for a spaceship to fly out of Earth’s atmosphere. This burst of power can really get us places! If we don’t know where to aim it, we might end up letting it explode and dissipate. Or maybe you’re using that fire wisely, but others around you are burning the place down. Either way, the Full Moon is a time to reflect how we want to implement being in right relationship.

With the Sun in Taurus since April 20th, we’ve received a welcome grounding influence, an invitation to center all of that fiery energy within a slowed-down pace and with respect to our physical capacity. That’s where today’s Full Moon invites us to look at:

What is in my life that’s blocking or thwarting the flow of life-force through the system?

Especially, with the Scorpio/Taurus axis being lit up, it pays to look at two “usual suspect” places:

  1. Where our wounding has led us to create defense mechanisms that sever us from experiencing joy and pleasure in our bodies, and emotional intimacy in our relationships.
  2. Our true, soul-level hungers and longings, and how we can tap into our felt sense for the wisdom to take simple, cumulative action steps.

While the Scorpio Moon supplies sharp insight and passion to create change, the Taurus Sun, always, invites us to take simple, small, doable steps and apply them patiently.

Our future is at hand. It’s one of returning to the ground of what truly makes life grow: love, the more-than-human worlds, Spirit, and the sustaining powers of this incredible planet that holds and nourishes us. The rest is folly.
