Living In Your Home Frequency: A Guide

The Importance of Aligning with Our Unique Vibration.

Why “Home Frequency”?

This term originates with author Penney Peirce, and is described in her aptly named book, “Frequency”. I like the feel of it, so I’ve adopted it in conversation. It’s a handy way of referring to something I also like to call our Soul Glow (or just simply “Glow”). These are shorthands for a complex phenomenon: a dynamic, utterly harmonious, blissful vibration which comes about from being completely filled with ourselves in the best possible way.

In Context

If you’re very familiar with the idea of subtle energy, none of this will be new for you! (If so, feel free to skip this part). I’ll be referring to this particular kind of energy as “vibration”, “frequency” “subtle energy” or just plain “energy”. (This isn’t the same as what physics defines as energy, such as electrical, chemical or kinetic energy — though there are some metaphorical parallels).

What follows is a simplified overview, distilled from how I experience and think about energy firsthand as a psychic and healing practitioner, combined with the philosophies that work well for me as helpful mental models to think and talk about what I perceive.

Each of us inhabits nestled ecosystems: our body is an ecosystem; so is our home, as are the urban and natural landscapes we navigate every day. In that exact same way, we’re also part of nestled spiritual ecosystems.

Whereas our physical environment is composed of matter, many religions, indigenous cultures and occult traditions describe the spiritual dimensions as being made up of subtle energy. Energy, then, would be akin to a medium or substance — like the water our spirit swims in. We can also think of energy as a force.

Here are some of its characteristics:

  • It permeates all living beings and systems; in fact, it gives life, wholeness and wellbeing;

  • It gives form and structure to the non-physical dimensions (i.e., they are “made of” energy in the way our physical world is made out of matter);

  • It is sentient, creative and responsive to our consciousness: to our thoughts, feelings, memories, inward symbols, and especially, to our focused attention

  • It creates the blueprints for physical phenomena: the physical world stems from and is shaped by its energetic counterpart.

  • Living beings generate energy fields or “auras” that contain our physical bodies within them. A curious thing about energy in the form of our aura, is that it also seems to be the interface between Spirit and the material world, something almost-material that can transduce the Above into the Below, and vice-versa.

  • Those who are sensitive to energy generally perceive it as being in motion, both through vibration (when we perceive energy with our psychic senses we “see” colors, “hear” sounds, or “touch” density and temperature, which mirror the vibration of light, sound, and matter in the physical dimension), and through flow (as it moves through living systems and spaces, vitalizing them in the process). Flow and vibration are two core metaphors we use when talking about energy, hence our popular term “vibes” — the felt-mood of a person or situation, which might truly be the sum-total of their energetic state. Is energy truly moving, or is all this an imagination-device to help us grasp and describe it? No idea.

Some fun philosophical tangents: different groups and cultures describe subtle energy differently. But the thing is, in some ways subtle energy is a lot like an artistic medium: it molds itself to us and to how we work with it. There are some rules of thumb, but also wild contradictions between different lineages and traditions.

At the same time, scientific research into subtle energy is evolving. We don’t know what subtle energy is exactly — we only have helpful models that allow us to imagine it and work with it “hands-on”, such as the many forms of energy medicine available to study. We can even measure some of its effects, but not the energy itself — unlike the way we might measure physical energies such as electricity or radiation.

In my ongoing learning, I’m exploring some of these fine points, such as paradoxes like the idea that Energy = Information, rather than it being a kind of flowing ether, which is how most traditional descriptions portray subtle vibrations. (And rather how I’ve described it above for ease and simplicity).

Is energy ultimately a field, and the changes we perceive being waves moving through it? Is it a force, like gravity? Is it information? Is it vibration? Is it the flow of Universal Love? Is it Consciousness itself? In order to play with energy, we might need to think about it as all these and more.

(Philosophical materialism, which is an ultra-prevalent ideology in our Western world, says that matter is all that exists, and often assumes that subtle energies as described in these traditions can’t be real. A topic of exploration for a future dispatch?).

What Inhabiting our Frequency Means

It follows from the above that each one of us is also, first and foremost, a being made up of energy. We inhabit a body which also has an energetic counterpart. All the while, we’re in connection and constant exchange with our energy ecosystems, whether we’re conscious of it or not.

This leads us to the “why” of this whole exploration: our home frequency — or our most optimal energetic arrangement and vibration — allows us to maintain our sense of wholeness and integrity in a vast universe of ever flowing, ever changing vibrations all around us.

Our home frequency is kind of our “Goldilocks zone”. If our energy fields (auras) are like an instrument we can tune, then the “just right” tuning feels harmonious and balanced. ( I should add here too that, from my psychic’s perspective, every single energy field has its own beauty and magnetism — yes, your energy is beautiful!!!)

The magic happens when , like in an orchestra, we’re focused on playing our part, our own instrument, yet in harmony and in sync with our fellow musicians.

Or, if you’ll allow me another sound-based metaphor, think of your ideal frequency like a radio station, where the music that plays 24/7 is the perfect soundtrack that supports your full range of self.

That is to say, what I’m describing isn’t a static, unidimensional state, but more like a bandwidth: a range of states and ways of being that mirror your unique signature, and in so doing, feel optimal and nourishing.

Here’s what I’ve noticed personally, and what others often report:

  • In our home frequency, we feel uplifted, spacious, expansive — yet centered, empowered and grounded at the same time.
  • We feel joyful or blissful, without these positive feelings being dependent on external variables. Our own presence and fullness intrinsically makes us feel good.
  • We have an easier time making decisions. When our own vibration is clear, free from static and noise, we can sense, feel and know what courses of action resonate with our energy. For instance, when we check in with ourselves about an upcoming decision, we’ll feel a clear “Yes” or “No” through our felt sense: expansion, ease and flow for “Yes”, contraction, dread or stagnation for “No”. (Bear in mind that these are generalizations and your specific inner senses may guide you using other signals. Still, I can speak for myself here: a lot of complication in my life has fallen away since I learned to trust my own frequency as a compass!)
  • Similarly, our energetic sweet spot allows us to clearly sense our boundaries, as well as  what energies, thoughts, feelings and ways of connecting truly belong to us, and what stems from another person or space that we’ve taken on (an important skill for empaths and highly sensitive people, as well as neurodivergent folks whose boundaries are very porous). Our home frequency gives us the information we need to be discerning about how we connect with others, while remaining kind and generous in connection.
  • Many people notice an uptick in magical, surprising coincidences or synchronicities, leading to a feeling of being “in the flow” of the Universe. (I’ve written in depth about how we can work with synchronicity in our lives here, if you want to read more).

  • Last but not least, I’ll share a mystical paradox here that becomes apparent the more we practice being in our Glow. As I’ve described it so far, one could ungenerously imagine it’s all a very self-involved affair. We might worry that focusing on our vibratory state might render us into a selfish, fragile caricature…

“Don’t come near me with that negativity, you’ll contaminate my home frequency”.
“My home frequency tells me it’s a NO on doing the dishes today”.

Not the intended application of these pointers! But also, the truth is that tuning to our most optimal vibration is actually a great way to put to rest any unhelpful self-focus.

On one hand, as we attune to who we are at an energetic level, our own presence becomes more available to us. Our own energy nourishes us, and when satiated, we’ll be less hungry for it. We ourselves become, over time, like an alchemical ingredient, which we carry with us wherever we go, a healing component our world needs — whether we’re actively trying to “help” in the selfless sense of the word or not.

On the other hand, it becomes apparent that broadcasting our unique “radio channel” is not as much about us, but more of a conduit for the Greater to flow through us. Things ultimately become more transpersonal, even as more magic and inspiration flows into our world.

“Integrity” in this sense, becomes all about the upkeep of our energetic state of wholeness.

Energy permeates everything and, in a sense, we must remain permeable to receive the ongoing flow of lifeforce that suffuses all beings.

This makes us open to all kinds of energies we may or may not want participating in our personal space. We’re tasked with keeping an eye on our energetic bubble and maintaining it in a state of dynamic balance — which isn’t so different from our personal hygiene habits, honestly! Most of us don’t even blink at the thought of handwashing, showering, and brushing our teeth. Keeping up the health of our energetic space can be exactly like that.

Not a Panacea, But…

I’m the last person who’ll prescribe toxic positivity, or an endless pursuit of “healing” as a kind of salvation. But if you’ve read my previous posts here, you’ll know I’m a bit of an advocate for legitimately feeling good — de-normalizing cynicism, nihilism, life feeling like crap all the time. I believe we have a baseline birthright to connection, meaning, love and joy, which flows into our life through our Soul-link to the energy realms.

By this I don’t mean to shame anyone who’s in a dark place. Having spent the first decades of my life in a chronic state of despair, I get it. Yet it’s precisely because I’ve found so much coherence and wholeness, and such a source of ongoing, intrinsic vibrancy thanks to the perspective I’m sharing here, that I hope some of you reading will find this all helpful.

I particularly imagine that fellow empaths, highly sensitive people, and other neurodivergent folks with a porous sense of self can benefit from practicing home-frequency attunement. In all these cases, it can be almost second nature to  us to absorb foreign energies of people, places and situations, which keeps us out of touch with our own vibration.

Truly, so many of us who are outliers of any sort experienced othering from early on in life. Our spontaneous expression of self (emotions, thoughts, interests, wants, needs, strengths, challenges and vulnerabilities) were not OK or needed to be set aside in favor of external “shoulds”. We develop an “adapted self” that conforms to social expectations, distorting our vibration, pulling us away from our center.

Whether through unwittingly absorbing foreign energies, or through necessary adaptation (or both), we experience the equivalent of static in our metaphorical radio signal. If you’ve ever dialed a radio somewhere in between stations, think of  the crackly, buzzing sound, with snippets of songs and broadcasts from different stations fading in and out abruptly. Hard to make anything out at all… and that’s how many of us walk through life, in terms of attunement to our own energy.

Is it any wonder we’d feel dysregulated, anxious, confused, unable to discern the best course of action?

Of course, if we’re struggling, there are often many factors at play. Home-frequency attunement can be a helpful factor to return to balance, aiding us in charting a course that’s optimal for us — even if it doesn’t fix everything at once.

How do we recognize, own and inhabit our home frequency?

In my view, we connect to our home frequency in three distinct ways:

  1. Embodied:

Physically participating in what gives us life, feels good, and makes us feel rejuvenated. It doesn’t have to be goal-oriented (though it can be, if that’s what lights you up).

Is it dance, baking, going for a walk? Talking to a friend? Practicing a sport you love, or watching a really good movie? I don’t want to skew too far in the direction of leisure activities here, but “work” as defined by culture generally carries some elements of self-disconnection, to say the least. If your job lights you up though, it counts, and so does cleaning the bathroom tiles, if you feel more alive afterward.

Bottomline, we’re connecting with our senses, our felt experience, our direct access to life force.  With a special mention here for nature-based activities, as the more-than-human world strengthens and rebalances our energy field when we spend time with them, especially outdoors.
  2. Energetic:

This one is about using subtle energy tools (of which there are tons) to strengthen and amplify our energetic field’s unique signature, while clearing blockages and anything else that doesn’t serve. This can look like having a Reiki treatment, or an acupuncture session on the more “healing” end of the spectrum. But we can also approach energy work from the perspective of active imagination: using our inner senses, with a creative, playful mind, to assess the state of our energy, to explore and interact with our energetic ecosystem, and to tend to it. In so doing, we establish relationships to our inner parts, our spiritual friends, teachers and allies; we clear blocks and energies that don’t serve us, while filling ourselves up with our preferred vibrations. (At the end of this guide you’ll find one of my go-to practices to try out).

  3. Conscious Insight:

This avenue is all about getting mental and emotional clarity about ourselves and how we thrive: with a full inventory of strengths, vulnerabilities, preferences and needs; shadow tendencies, challenges, classic pitfalls and beautiful gifts all included.

My favorite way to find and apply these conscious insights is through astrology, (no surprise there!  🙂) , though we can use any system that works for us and resonates with us at a deep level.  It’s all about having a more objective or left-brained counterpart to the direct-experiencing of our optimal energy state that we get from the two approaches above. This gives us context to understand and articulate our home frequency better — and with that understanding, incredible possibilities for living-as-our-home-frequency open up.

What I find so great about astrological understanding as it relates to our home frequency, is that astrology presents us with archetypal symbols to describe it. Archetypal symbols, in turn, are not one-sided or flat: each archetype can be expressed in countless ways, and without losing its identity, it can express as empowered or disempowered, exaggerated or collapsed, harmonious or dissonant.

So, let’s say I meet with a client who has a very prominent Mars in their birth chart. Planet Mars is named after the Roman god of war, and as an archetype, it channels instinctual drives, an assertion of our needs and boundaries, even through anger and aggression if need be.

We might meet the god Mars through my client, as the Hunter, the Soldier, the Protector, the Athlete or the Go-getter (or maybe all the above in one person!). But what if that same Mars wasn’t recognized as an essential part of my client’s home frequency — what if they were shamed for it, constantly told to “chill out” or “tone it down”? What if, as a young child, my client’s family was afraid for them or even of them, of their intensity and fire? Where will that Mars go?

Exactly nowhere— that’s where. Mars will forever remain a strong ingredient in the powerful alchemical brew of my client’s energy signature, but instead of seeing its nobler expressions, we might see it cloaked as crippling anxiety or aggression towards the self, or imposter syndrome as they try to present a much more tame version of themselves to the world. They may be always fearful of their anger leaking out, of “saying the wrong thing” and hurting others — their whole life may be about walking on eggshells because they internalized the message that their Mars wasn’t OK, that there was nowhere for it to go in the world. But, armed with conscious knowledge about their Mars, my client can instead begin to legitimize their intrinsic fiery-ness, and consciously direct it in the more generative expressions of the Mars archetype. I’ve seen profound healing take place as we step into Right Relationship with our home frequency through astrology!

Hands-on section: Things to try

In my holistic practice, I support clients to craft a life set to their home frequency. We do so especially via the second and third avenues I’ve outlined above: through energetic healing and tune-ups, and through helping my clients craft a granular sense of their Soul’s blueprint, using the language of astrology. Here is one essential practice from my energy toolbox you can try, if you feel so inspired.

Grounding, Releasing — and Reclaiming your Home Frequency

Take maybe 10-15 minutes for this if you can, longer if you’re able, with eyes closed sitting in a relaxed position. If you are able to do this outside, sitting on the ground with your back leaning against a tree, that’s a great add-on. But don’t worry — you can do this anywhere.

If you are able to visualize using your mind’s eye, then do this practice with images. If you’re a person who sees no images in your mind, then use the inner sense(s) you’re most comfortable with: you can give form to the concepts I describe for this practice using sensations, sounds, words, or simply the power of “pretend play” instead. Be creative and feel free to explore all your inner senses here.

Step 1:

Picture/feel/intend a grounding cord from the base of your spine to the very center of the Earth. Imagine it big and strong, as large around as your hips. It can be whatever you like: a tree trunk, a tube of color + light, a rainbow, a ship’s anchor, whatever feels fun and appropriate. This cord re-connects you to the power and support of the Earth.

Step 2:

Once you have the cord in place, give it a switch that allows you to link it to gravity, so that it pulls from you anything that you’re ready to release down into the core of the Earth. Let yourself release anything that’s overwhelming you, frustrating or blocking you, or otherwise appears to be impairing your intrinsic connection to your energy. You can choose to look at/ explore the element(s) leaving your body more closely to see what they are, or just let them go.

Step 3:

Notice how you’re feeling now.

Step 4:

Have a look at your field and see if any of the energy you’re seeing/imagining/sensing that remains doesn’t belong to you. Just play with the sensations, colors and feelings that come, and let your attention be drawn to what doesn’t belong.

Step 5:

Picture/create/intend that you now have a container you’ll use to spot-clean those energies that are still in your field and don’t belong. Just place them within your container and imagine the bubble flying outside your window (or far away from you if you’re outside) and exploding with a big bang. The action of exploding recycles those energies back to the Universe.

Step 6:

Ask to see a specific color/feel a vibration or sensation/hear a word, that represents your most optimal energy state for right now. Imagine that color/word/sensation filling every spot in your body and energy field.

Step 7:

Write your name all around your energy, and all around the room you’re in. Let your signature fill the space.

Step 8:

Notice what your own energy feels like when it fills you like this.

Step 9:

Imagine/feel/intend sacred, pure healing energy coming in from above (from the Cosmos/your Higher Power) like a waterfall, and from below (from Earth) like a geyser. Let these energies meet at your heart. Let the overflow spill down your grounding cord into the Earth. Bathe in that energy for as long as you need to. Check in with yourself again.

Step 10:

Bring yourself back to regular awareness and take notes of anything you wish to remember (any guidance, sensations or knowings might fade really fast, so be sure to record them before you go about your day).

Repeat this practice (or chunks of it you find particularly helpful) as often as you like.

I hope you’ve found this guide helpful! Let me know in the comments if something resonates with you, if you have questions, and any experiences you want to share around living inside your home frequency!

News From My Practice: Autumn Tune-Up

Friends, we’re in that liminal time between seasons! In honor of Autumn slowly sneaking in, here in the Northern Hemisphere, I’m again offering two seasonally-inspired service specials at a discounted price.

These offers will be available between today’s Virgo New Moon and the Sagittarius New Moon on Dec. 1st. If you’re interested in any of these sessions, or have questions about them, email me at hello@karineglinton.com

Autumn Tune-Up offerings:

Soul Glow: Aura/ Chakra Healing Sessions

88€ for 1hr (regular price is 111€).

During these sessions, we’ll lovingly approach your energy field through psychic healing, with the assistance of my spirit guides. The process begins by scanning your field to find and understand the cause of any imbalances in your field (whether they be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual), and to spot any energies that don’t belong with you or are ready to be released. Next, I’ll use psychic tools to help bring healing, re-alignment, and to assist you in anchoring yourself in your intrinsic Soul Glow. You can bring specific “stuck places” to the session or come in for a general tune up.

Ultimately, healing is a process and it’s highly individual. I ethically can’t make claims around these sessions, but I can do my best to help facilitate the change you are looking for.  I have seen powerful and wonderful outcomes. While these sessions can’t promise to fully heal or transform deep seated issues in the span of an hour, they can bring insight, jumpstart or boost a longer healing process, or add on to your existing self-care. (And yes, sometimes “all it takes” is one hour, so big breakthroughs are not outside the realm of the possible!)

Home Frequency Bundle:

333€ for three, 1hr-long sessions (regular price 440€).

These will be three hands-on consultation sessions to help you level up your daily experience of your energetic field, by learning and applying energy tools (such as the grounding/reclaiming practice I shared in this guide), together with some astrological basics.

These sessions will be helpful to boost your wellbeing and self-awareness if you’re struggling with energy boundaries, blockages, overwhelm, or “noise” in the signal of your energy field.

I’ll tailor the process specifically to you by taking our first session to evaluate what approaches will be most helpful in your case, and we’ll use the second and third sessions to practice, answer your questions and troubleshoot together.

(BTW there’s a brief period of overlap — I still have two spots open for last minute Benefic Summer requests between now and the Equinox on Sept 21, so if you were hoping to get on my calendar for those, you can still do so 🙂 )
