Glimmers of Transcendence: Pisces Full Moon Eclipse

Friends, we’re about to cross the mystical portal of a Pisces Full Moon Lunar Eclipse.

The Full Moon takes place on Sept. 18 at 2:34am UT, at 25 degrees, 06’ of Pisces, just a few days before the Libra Equinox decidedly shifts the balance of light and dark, placing us squarely in Autumn here on Gaia’s Northern half, while those of you in the Southern hemisphere enjoy the blooming of Spring.

Our upcoming Full Moon plunges us into the oceanic waters of the final sign of the zodiac. This is a special Full Moon for many reasons: it’s a Supermoon, a partial Lunar eclipse, and the first North Node eclipse of the upcoming Pisces/Virgo cycle. Not to mention that it’s conjunct Pisces’ ruler Neptune, and woven into a tapestry of aspects that, all in all, ask us to embrace radical change and opportunity-in-crisis.

During the time-window of the Full Moon, our human-centric, culture-bound logic gets to take a backseat, in favor of the transcendent. The waaaaaayyy bigger-picture, shimmering perspective of the Soul is illuminated by this Moon’s light.

Near-death experiencers often come back to life to share that when crossing over into the afterlife, their experience of love was overwhelming. They also often report that they experience what’s known as a “life review”, where they revisit each one of their interactions from the perspective of the Other.

In so doing, they are able to see how they have caused hurt, even not meaning to; or touched another’s life, making a difference even without realizing it. Story after story of people coming back from death emphasizes that there is never any judgment for their earthly actions, only deep understanding, compassion, and a fierce knowing of our interconnectedness.

(As an aside: if this is a topic that sparks your curiosity, I can recommend the book Lessons From the Light by Kenneth Ring as a thorough starting point, as well as the work of Raymond Moody, and Bruce Greyson. IANDS is also a good resource. )

While perhaps pale in comparison, I can also report that my own experiences as a medium echo some of this. In a mediumship communication, I often know I’m truly connecting with Spirit because suddenly, my chest is about to burst from the luminous love pouring in, eclipsing everything. Even if the spirit I’m communicating with isn’t sharing any kind of deep occult truth or earth-shattering message, I can honestly say these repeated contacts with transcendent Love have changed me — the way stone is shaped by water. My personality, likes and dislikes, my priorities all have changed, (feels like) beyond recognition just from being in contact with that all-embracing energy.

Pisces logic is the logic of the vast ocean of Consciousness. It is the luminous reality that underlies life in the third dimension. It is the bigger-picture reminder that, while our worldly concerns are important and meaningful, we’re also spiritual beings, playing in the dream-like nature of reality.

This Full Moon is here to offer some of that medicine, and the perspective that comes with it. Just like when we take off in an airplane — suddenly everything on the ground becomes toy-sized. The more we rise, the more our daily environment is reduced to little dots in an abstract landscape below. In that same way, for the time being, we get to take in the bigger design of All that Is. We can let the busy-ness and details, the nitty-gritty stuff that normally seems so crucial, rest in a more spacious field of connection and belonging that goes far beyond our personal, or even human, concerns.

Only then can we realize what it is that we’re putting so much effort in for.  Are our efforts aligned with our Soul’s deeper compass?

The process that began with the Virgo New Moon — with scrutiny and discernment, figuring out what belongs and what doesn’t, what to aim for and what to discard — is now folded into an embrace much larger than our day-to-day awareness, our usual trials and tribulations.

Typically, while treading the Piscean waters, we need the groundedness and good judgment of Virgo, its complementary sign, to keep us from getting lost in the sheer transcendence. Or from becoming so entranced with alternate realities that we fail to care for our human, material here-and-now needs. This is where we may fall into the shadow side of Pisces, with escapism, addiction, dissociation (looking at you, social media!), boundarylessness, or such a lack of healthy discrimination that we foolishly give all of ourselves away.

For those of us who have been struggling with the rollercoaster of intense planetary aspects of the last month-plus, these less-than-desirable possibilities could be something to watch out for during this Full Moon. Let’s keep in mind that Pisces can just as easily provide avenues for spiritual or ideological delusion as true spiritual transformation. With Pluto and Uranus strongly at play during this Full Moon, prompting liberation and radical change, we could be so desperate for “lift off” that we jump for the wrong shiny thing. This is not a time to turn off our good sense completely.

And yet!

This Full Moon/ Lunar Eclipse brings us a teaser trailer of the North Node moving into Pisces in January 2025. I just watched a video simulation of the eclipse online. As a partial eclipse, it even looked like the Earth’s shadow will be taking a little bite, just a nibble off of the Moon. It felt like this moment in time is the appetizer before the main course.

When the lunar nodes change signs, our collective focus for soul-growth shifts. We receive a new “soul syllabus” with changed priorities for development, refinement, and letting go of ways of being that don’t serve.

With the North Node in Pisces and South Node in Virgo, starting next year we’ll be confronted with the dead ends of perfectionism, left-brained rigidity, hyper-controlling ways of going about life, ungenerous scrutiny and toxic criticism — all Virgo pitfalls. Instead, the Universe will be supporting and encouraging us in taking a much more expanded, spiritual view, reflecting the strengths of Pisces:

  • Embracing “what is” with love and compassion,
  • Releasing toxic/crippling shame and the addiction to busy-ness,
  • Acceptance of  self and other just as we are,
  • Action and change that expresses true care for the suffering of others,
  • Seeing the beauty in everything, even imperfection,
  • Communion and surrender to our Higher Power,
  • Flowing with our spiritual and/ or creative inspiration, even if it makes no rational sense,
  • Making space for divine inspiration to guide us into more magical lives,
  • Discovering the transformative power of imagination and intuition,
  • Exploration of any and all methods that help us access our psychic and non-ordinary states of awareness: whether that’s meditation, ritual, art, music, prayer, or something more individual to you, which lets you commune with the Cosmos.

It seems to me that this Full Moon is inviting us to do two things.

One: to pay close attention, and notice how these themes begin to whisper in our ear now, as a way to pave the way for a beautiful, magical new incoming vision that we’ll be working on during 2025-2026.

Two, to take a moment of contemplation: a “sacred time-out” where we can take the higher view and integrate the rapid pace of change of the last months. To carve out some space in the midst of “all the things” to listen closely as we ask: what we can do now, to be ready to step into true Love in Action?
