Thoughts on our fear of the metaphysical

The Western assumption that matter is all there is, and that realms beyond the physical are a figment of the foolish, superstitious, immature imagination — or worse, a product of madness — has fostered in us a deep ontological fragility.

By cordoning off the spiritual and subtle realms as no-go zones, we become prone to our sense of reality breaking — because those realms are part of the human experience whether we like it or not, and they’re bound to make themselves known.

As a result, many of us tend to become ultra-defensive, rather than curious, inquisitive, relational, and discovery-minded about experiences we don’t understand and that transcend the bounds of physical-only narratives.

Like the Tower card in Tarot, whenever we build structures that limit us through their mismatch with the Soul, there’s bound to be a lightning strike to crack them open — and after the rubble, to set us free.
